Before you start
Check which Minecraft Java Edition version you want to play. Cipher Client 1.2.0 has a separate JAR for 1.21.11, 26.1.2, 26.2 and 26.3, and each JAR only works on the version in its name.
| Minecraft | Cipher Client JAR | Java |
|---|---|---|
| 1.21.11 | cipherclient-1.2.0+mc1.21.11.jar | 21 |
| 26.1.2 | cipherclient-1.2.0+mc26.1.2.jar | 25 |
| 26.2 | cipherclient-1.2.0+mc26.2.jar | 25 |
| 26.3 | cipherclient-1.2.0+mc26.3.jar | 25 |
The official Minecraft Launcher provides the right Java version automatically. Third-party launchers such as Prism or MultiMC may ask you to select Java 21 or Java 25 yourself.
Install Fabric Loader
- 01
Download the Fabric installer
Get the official installer from fabricmc.net.
- 02
Select your Minecraft version
Choose the same version as your Cipher Client JAR and a Loader version that meets the minimum: 0.18.4 for 1.21.11, 0.19.3 for 26.1.2, 0.19.5 for 26.2 and 26.3.
- 03
Create the profile
Click Install. A new Fabric profile appears in the Minecraft Launcher. Start it once so the game folders are created, then close the game.
Add Fabric API
Cipher Client depends on Fabric API. Download the Fabric API file for the same Minecraft version from its official project page on Modrinth or CurseForge and put it in your mods folder. The minimum versions are 0.141.3+1.21.11, 0.151.0+26.1.2, 0.160.0+26.2 and 0.160.5+26.3.
Can't find the folder? It is %appdata%\.minecraft\mods on Windows, ~/Library/Application Support/minecraft/mods on macOS and ~/.minecraft/mods on Linux. See where the Minecraft mods folder is for launcher-specific paths.
Add the Cipher Client JAR
Open the official download page, choose the card with your Minecraft version and save the JAR. Optionally compare its SHA-256 checksum with the value on the page. Move the JAR into the same mods folder as Fabric API.
Put only one Cipher Client JAR in the folder. Remove older or other-version copies first, otherwise Fabric reports a duplicate mod.
First launch
Start the Fabric profile from the launcher. Once you are in a world or on a server, press Right Shift to open the Cipher Client menu. From there you can search modules, open their settings with the ⚙ icon, pin favourites with ☆ and set keybinds.
Two things are worth checking on first launch: Settings → Crash Guard, which is on by default, and Settings → Telemetry → Report Usage, where you can switch off the usage report (see what it contains). Bind a panic key in Settings if you want to switch every module off at once.
Browse all 197 modulesUpdate to a new version
Cipher Client checks once per launch whether a newer version exists for your Minecraft version and shows a one-time notice in game. To update:
- 01
Download the new JAR
Get the file for your Minecraft version from the download page.
- 02
Remove the old JAR
Delete the previous
cipherclient-…JAR from yourmodsfolder so Fabric does not report a duplicate mod. - 03
Add the new JAR and start the game
Your settings, profiles and keybinds stay as they were.
Prefer no notices? Switch off Settings → Updates & Community → Check for Updates.
Fix common errors
| Error or symptom | Cause and fix |
|---|---|
| "Mod ciphermod requires minecraft …" | The JAR is for another Minecraft version. Download the JAR that matches the version you launch. |
| "requires fabric-api" or "missing dependency" | Fabric API is missing or too old. Add the Fabric API build for the same Minecraft version. |
| "requires fabricloader >= …" | Your Fabric Loader is older than the minimum. Run the Fabric installer again with a newer Loader. |
| "requires java >= 25" (or 21) | Your launcher uses an older Java runtime. Select Java 21 for 1.21.11 or Java 25 for 26.x. |
| Game starts but Right Shift does nothing | You started the vanilla profile instead of Fabric, or the JAR is not in the active instance's mods folder. |
| "Duplicate mod" error | Two Cipher Client JARs are installed. Keep only the one for your version. |
Still stuck? Read why a Fabric mod is not loading or ask on Discord with your Minecraft, Loader, Fabric API and Java versions and the error from logs/latest.log.
Common questions
Why does Fabric say Cipher Client requires a different Minecraft version?
Each Cipher Client JAR only works on the Minecraft version in its file name. Remove the JAR and download the one for the version you launch.
Why does Fabric say fabric-api is missing?
Cipher Client needs Fabric API. Download the Fabric API build for the same Minecraft version and put it in the same mods folder.
Can I use Cipher Client with Forge, NeoForge or Quilt?
No. Cipher Client is built for Fabric Loader only.
